NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH ALERT* [ARCHIVES] Stop the "coin bandit".  Keep vehicles locked overnight.

June 30, 2005

Over the past year and as recently as 6/27/2005, homeowners around Henderson Road/DeKalb County are leaving their vehicles unlocked and finding their vehicles were entered and rummaged through overnight.  Glove boxes were opened, and items had been gone through in consoles and under seats.  Only small items, such as change, have been reported as taken.

Ms. Sharen Dorcon - DeKalb County Police Bureau Services/Crime Prevention Specialist, was contacted for advice.  In summary:

  • Dial 911 to document and report the incident to Police.  Ms. Dorcon reviews the crime statistics regularly with the Police.  If incidents aren't documented, she nor the Police are aware there is a trend and can allocate resources more appropriately.

  • To deter the "coin bandit", please lock your vehicles at all times.  Remove any items of value from your car and keep out of sight any tempting items.

 How can I help?

* Please Note:  This notification should not be considered an official "alert" from the DeKalb Police Department.  Details for this notification were provided by Henderson Road area residents.
